Final Project Ideas

Cierra Wilson
Final Idea
4-10-06

This project I wanted to create an educational music game. The user will start out in a music shop. The theme will be folk music. They will choose an instrument: the violin, viola, or mandolin. Each one has it’s own part. Once selecting an instrument, the user will go to the next scene to learn the parts of the cleft, notes and beat. It will resemble a memory game. Once the user has gained knowledge of their own instrument they will attempt to participate with the band. The user must get the right notes in place as the bars flow constantly across the screen.

Scene 1
-Want to in corporate dynamic text in creating a menu and functional buttons and instructional type.
Scene 2
- The user must learn to identify Notes in the aspects of placement, sound, and length.
- The user will engage in a memory game in which each phase consists of matching pitch, note placement, and the type of note.
- The user will drag and drop the notes into the proper place to complete the score
- This incorporates the action script if and/or if else
- Once all three elements are in place then the user moves on to the next level

Scene 3
- There are several players positioned in a garden and you must participate in the folk song.
- There will be a bar of music scrolling across the screen and as the note in the first of each measure hits the tempo bar (Kind of like DDR) you must hit the note to complete the game and successfully finish the song.

Other ideas
- Many hidden objects that activate when scrolled over and play when clicked. Small things like sounds and mini movie clips.
- Also if in the third scene there should be dragable and droppable notes at the bottom of the page that should be placed in the right place at the top of the screen instead of clicking.
- This would mean that the notes should be placed in the right spot at exactly the right time.

Critique-Mid Term

The comic that I attempted to create was not as in depth as i had hoped. Partially because of limited time but it turned out a lot better than I thought.I feel that just like any program it takes time and practice. This is one program i will do extensive practice on over the summer. The comic is based off of a conversation i had with my roommate a couple of weeks ago about some old, stale, rancid burrito that was left in the fridge. I really enjoyed doing this project seeing the possibilities that i had. I want to go back and make even more adjustments to make it better.

Thompson - The comic was simple and clean. I feel that there could have been a little more interaction with the panels. The style was nice and execution clean.

Hodge - This was fun to see and interact with. Once I reached the 4th panel, I predicted what was going to happen. Maybe if the scenes in the panel were different in content then it would be more interesting. The comic was very clean and the pictures were beautifully colored.

Breedlove - The fact that you labeled one of the elements on your stage 'MCA' makes me want to know your idea behind your project was. It intrigues meeeee...; But yes I enjoyed it very much due to the fact that it's very busy and looks inviting. I'm assuming that it's not completed because it stops and doesn't continue. I feel that once it's complete it will be wonderful.

My Comic Content.

After seening Simon's comic about an average day, i decied that many of the random conversations i have with people should be shared as well just as a day was shared by simon. Well the other day I was talking with my roommate about a stale randic buritto in the fridgerator. Some how the conversation ended with a wierd band name of Death by Rancid Buritto and Hot Peppers, with my roommate sliding a plate with the old buritto on the floor up to my cat, who savagely devowered it. I would like to take the comic through steps of our conversation with several parts that are connected and end with the same scene, in a kind of loop. After reading Simons tutorial i see that his comic was one big Movie clip with many Movie clips nested inside it. Controling each other through different time frames, in each move clip, Simon perfected his moving comic.

Simon Norton’s “Testimony: A story Machine.” Response

Yay! Amazing. I really enjoyed this piece. Lots of clipping and pruning to make this piece beautiful. This is my passion and what I desire. The way that the story moved around to create convertable stories was ingenious. The content of the piece was one that I could connect with even though there was no set plot in a certain direction. I want to create what Simon did.. I really do, but at this point I just don't see it as possible.

Assignment Write-Up/ First Comp

ARG!..Me + Flash = this----------->
I enjoy this type of work, but, well I would like to say that Action-Script is a whore. It reminds me of html coding except more complicated. Trying to figure out where the script is valid, and where it is not, making sure that the code is perfect so that it works correctly, and labeling, have made this first assignment harder than I thought. It literally took me hours to figure out how to change scenes. I feel that there was too much information placed at one time, or maybe I'm just slow. I understand how the functions work, but I just feel as if I still have a small void to this whole code idea. I know that I can do it. Just that i don't have enough time to make it appealing and create the correct functions that i want.

PERFECTION...is what Flash Demands. I feel like if I don't go in a certain order then my mission won't be accomplished. Or maybe I should eliminate all other elements and work on them one at a time. I feel that if I just had a reference to look up exactly what I wanted the element to do and place the code where needed.
I'm seriously buying a book!

Web Art Response

One of the posts of wed art that caught my eye was "Scream" which was found on artificial.dk/networks. In response to the ideas that scientists are developing robots to be more "human like". This program greatly resembles the average human in a stressed, over worked environment.Developed by Amy Alexander, she simulates a responsive computer in the same way a human would react.

Vander Bush Response

The fact that the article written by Vander Bush was written in 1945 is amazing to see the "predictions"have come true. He talked about credit cards as if they were Mechanical devices filled with wonder and amazement. The ideas of the transactions and how many different people are affected through the swipes on millions of people everyday. He also wrote about Instant Pictures, now known as the Polaroid. A collaboration of scientist, chemist, and philosophers come together to make these inventions possible. When he started out the essay I wasn't sure if he was just furious about the corruption of man and his machines, but as he wore on it seems that he was explaining that technology is one way that man has caused his down fall. The conclusion is one that should be read and spread to all. It is beautiful and I think deeply explain human beings as long as they remain on the earth.

"The applications of science have built man a well-supplied house, and are teaching him to live healthily therein. They have enabled him to throw masses of people against one another with cruel weapons. They may yet allow him truly to encompass the great record and to grow in the wisdom of race experience. He may perish in conflict before he learns to wield that record for his true good. Yet, in the application of science to the needs and desires of man, it would seem to be a singularly unfortunate stage at which to terminate the process, or to lose hope as to the outcome."

Pioneers Concept- Wagner "Total Artwork"

As an orchestra student, I was taught to appreciate all types of music. Wagner is one of the greatest most influential composers of modern music. Only recently did i learn in Multimedia that he had a great impact on the concepts and ideas of Multimedia. His theory of "Total Art Work" ( combining all forms of art..."or synthesizing, effect of music drama Ð the unification of music, song, dance, poetry, visual arts, and stagecraft.") This idea, when I thought about it, seemed pretty intense. Now in this modern day in age most Americans are too lazy to read the subtitles in a foreign film. To think of all theses elements together would take the adaptation over long periods of time through small steps at a time. The ideas of this Concept is truly amazing when considered in totality.

What would you need to prepare for a Fast?

Fasting. What is it? What is it's purpose?
It is is the act of willingly abstaining from some or all food and/or drink, for a period of time. But as a child, my mother always taught me that fasting can stretch from the physical to the mental. Things that cloud your mind such as television and music... as she would say. People fast for many different reasons. Mostly it is done to cleans the body physically and mentally of impurities.

How would you go about
preparing for a fast?
It depends on the person. First you should prepare mentally. If you know your not strong willed enough to resist what your fasting from, get rid of it or put it out of sight so it won't be as tempting. Usually spiritual guidance is sought during a fast. Meditation and mind cleansing are the main foci's in a fast.
